Event Description
1960s bigband music is most notably associated with the challenges it presents for players - known to be a genre reserved exclusively for truly great musicians.
Bandmasters were also well aware of this, taking great care to find the right selection. The virtuoso clarinettist and saxophonist Karel Krautgartner was one of these, having taken the sixties Czech jazz scene by storm along with his band.
He was primarily inspired by bigbands from abroad, including the legendary Count Basie, Buddy Rich and Sammy Nestico. Our programme brings together the compositions of these great artists including a trip down memory lane with Karel Krautgartner.
