Pavel Steidl Guitar Recital

Event Description

“Whenever you go to a concert, it’s impossible not to be a critical listener. Steidl’s concert surprised me. The entire audience gave a standing ovation. His show was out of this world”, according to an excerpt from a review of Pavel Steidl’s performance by Gendai Guitar magazine. Born in Rakovník, he took up the guitar at the age of eight and was initially taught by his brother. He graduated from the Prague Conservatory where he took classes among others from Milan Zelenka and Arnošt Sádlík. He went on to study at the Academy of Performing arts in Prague under the acclaimed virtuoso guitarist Štěpán Rak. In addition to pursuing studies in classical playing, Pavel Steidl also garnered experience by attending master classes led by David Russell and Abel Carlevaro while also participated in a great many competitions and music festivals. In 1982 he won the Radio France de Paris competition which paved the way for his international career. Even though he lives and works in the Netherlands, music critics tend to refer to him as an outstanding Czech musician and representative of contemporary guitar music. He has given concerts in more than thirty countries around the world and recorded countless compositions written by both international as well as Czech composers. In 2003 Italian magazine Guitart ranked him in the top 8 most important guitarists around the world and two years later he went on to pick up the Classical Guitar Award.

Pavel Steidl also writes his own music which he performs as part of his concert programme. You can check this and him out at this year’s Prague Proms at the city’s Loop Jazz Club in Hostivař.
