Focused on Jazz Fusion

Event Description

Once again at this year's Prague Proms festival, there will be the chance for listeners to sample of a wide range of musical genres. In the spotlight this time around is jazz fusion. A musical genre dating back to the late 1960s, it subsequently morphed into a new style marrying jazz improvisation with rock, funk and R&B. The style is characterised by a rather urgent and expansive sound and rock rhythms, firmly rooted in specific instrumentation, especially electric guitars and keys, which weren’t commonplace in jazz until then.

Through the Focused on Jazz Fusion project, The Loop Jazz Orchestra will present compositions by leading jazz fusion composers including Wayne Shorter and Joe Zawinul (Weather Report), Herbie Hancock (The Headhunters), Michael and Randy Brecker (Brecker Brothers), Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays (Pat Metheny Group) and others.

Synthesisers and other electrified instruments, which are characteristic of fusion, will accompany the entire big band.
