Founded in the 1930s by pianist Josef Páleníček, the Smetana Trio is one of the most prominent Czech ensembles. It currently consists of: Jitka Čechová on piano, Jan Talich on violin and Jan Páleníček on cello. Over the years the Smetana Trio has made a number of recordings for Czech and foreign companies. They collaborate with leading conductors and orchestras and make regular guest appearances on home turf (Prague Spring, The Janáček May, Moravian Autumn) as well as abroad (France, Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, Italy, Slovenia).
And it will be no different at this year's Prague Proms festival. The Smetana Trio has accepted the invitation to perform at The Loop Jazz Club Hostivař and has put together a programme featuring the very best of chamber music. We can look forward to hearing acclaimed piano trios from Ludwig van Beethoven, Dmitri Shostakovich and Antonín Dvořák. Given that all members of the Smetana Trio rank among the crème de la crème of Czech soloists, which they manage to prove time and time again, this undoubtedly promises to be an extraordinary occasion to savour.
